Journey into Print and Packaging: Sharon Eucce's Induction into the Ben Franklin Honor Society

I am thrilled to announce that I, Sharon Eucce, am being inducted into the esteemed Ben Franklin Honor Society in October of 2023. This honor is a recognition for individuals who've made significant contributions to the printing and graphic communications industry, and I'm deeply humbled to be joining their ranks.

A little about me: I am a Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo graduate with a degree in Graphic Communication (GrC). My GPA wasn’t stellar, but my attitude and excitement for the industry started way back then and has carried me ever since. After graduation, my professional journey began with my first role at a family-owned printing company, On Paper, located in San Francisco, and owned by a fellow GrC Alum, Greg Garcia. This hands-on experience in the print industry led to a role as a production manager at TechnoWeb in San Jose, California.

Eventually, I found the world of paper specification sales in 1987, working with design firms and marketing departments for Nationwide Papers in Los Angeles. A series of career moves within the paper industry took me across the country, from New England to San Diego.

After 20 years in paper, the defining moment in my career came in 2006 when I was appointed to Fox River's new Luxury Packaging division. This important shift eventually led me to Utah Paperbox in 2007, when Fox River was sold to Neenah Paper. Here, I had the opportunity to delve deeply into folding cartons and rigid boxes, which significantly expanded my packaging knowledge.

Inspired by this journey, I established my own venture, Packaging Chic, in 2009, combining my expertise in design, print, paper, and packaging. In 2021, Packaging Chic reached a milestone by getting certified as a women-owned business.

Throughout this journey, mentorship and education have been core to my approach. I've leveraged my industry insight to contribute to Graphic Communication textbooks and have been guest lecturing at universities like San Diego State and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, since 1999. I’ve been lucky enough to be on the GrC Advisory Board for over 25 years working closely with the Cal Poly students and faculty.

Being inducted into the Ben Franklin Honor Society this October is really an honor that fills me with immense gratitude. This esteemed society brings together individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service, creativity, and dedication to the printing and graphic communications industry. Joining their ranks is a tribute to the vibrant community of professionals I've had the privilege to be part of throughout my career.

As we look to the future, I'm excited to continue driving innovation, fostering learning, and contributing to the advancement of the print and packaging industry through my business, Packaging Chic. Here's to the power of perseverance, collaboration, and the unwavering commitment to excellence that continues to shape our industry.
